President's Message
President's Message (1 May 2007)
by Geoff Getchman
Region 24 Elections:
Looks like there will again be no challengers for the three Region 24 executive board positions running this year: President, 3rd Vice President (State of Alaska), or 6th Vice President (Olympic-Kitsap Peninsulas). I hope that is because we have been doing such a great job?

So please locate this year’s “centerfold” ballot and vote, so that IPA-USA can certify your choices.

Rage Against the System:
Recently France elected a moderate for President and the National Police had to immediately deal with the Far Left (Anarchists, Marxists, etc) and all those socialist sympathizers in league with the Far Right Islamists. Elements of these joined together to burn privately owned vehicles and destroy public property, because their common enemy is a strong centralized democratic government.

However lucky we are (that the “rest of the world” is still in love with the America of the 1919-1959 movies), most of the world can only glimpse that fond memory of America by looking into the eyes of our soldiers or by traveling to the USA to see for them-selves this great country and its citizens. They sure won’t readily see it in the current news or movies.

Recognition of Evil:
During the April tragedy at Virginia Technical University several heroes confronted the murderer, but only one was instantly able to recognize evil when he saw it. As a survivor of the Holocaust, Liviu Libresco needed only one glance into the murderer’s eyes to know what to do; he threw himself at the classroom door and sacrificed his life to save his students.

Incredibly, immediately after the VT tragedy dozens came out of the woodwork to comment pro and con about the 2nd Amendment, which was written for the self-protection of our citizens from the vagaries of criminals and a repeat invasion by a foreign military. But self-protection should stem from our own ability to recognize a threat and prepare ourselves for the worst. And from what I’ve seen, we can’t rely upon the teacher, professor, or pastor to prepare our children against evil; that has to begin at home and perhaps with the Boy Scouts, whose motto is “Be Prepared!”

Washington’s Farewell Address:
After 8 years as commander of our Federal Armies against the British and 8 years as Commander in Chief of the US Armed Forces, President George Washington decided not to run for a third term. Here is an abbreviated version of the first five suggestions he gave to the people of America in order to remain prepared:

(1) Love America and frown upon any attempt to alienate any portion of the country from the rest. (2) The name “American” must always exalt the just pride of Patriotism. (3) The very idea of the power and the right of the people to establish Government presupposes the duty of every individual to obey it. (4) The formation of political parties serves always to distract Public Councils and enfeeble Public Administration. (5) Religion and Morality are indispensable supports for political prosperity; for where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths that we swear in Courts of Justice? [The remaining several admonitions in his speech focused upon the National Debt, Neutrality, and Trade].

Was it too obvious that Washington did not trust the morality of secular populism? Our forefathers stressed self-sufficiency and self-protection, so how are we doing nowadays?

Yours in Friendship!

As always, remember “Service through Friendship.”
